This is the closest we’ve come to robotic arms and hands that function and feel like the actual thing. Two new neuroprosthetic developments, published as a pair of studies in Science Translational Medicine this week, use implanted electrodes to support mimic the manage, freedom of movement, and sense of touch that several of us may well take for granted. One development restored the ability to discern familiar sensations, and the other recreated reliable motor control—both have been subjected to lengthy-term, true-globe use by amputees.
It would appear that Sweden has identified a way to deal with their garbage and certainly the rest of the planet could learn from their success. What is the option? This is not a thing that we can turn a blind eye to and ignore. It’s not going away. It is ironic that all of the progress that mankind has created over the final one hundred+ years is largely responsible for this mess.
The da Vinci method consists of a patient-side cart which stands next to the operating table and which has three or four robotic arms (the quantity depends upon the kind of surgery becoming performed) which hold a higher resolution 3D endoscope (connected to state-of-the-art image processing gear offering high good quality images of the operating location) and the needed operating instruments. The patient-side cart is supervised by a skilled surgeon who will make the necessary access incisions for the operation and also supervise the laparoscopic arms, for instance, altering instruments as essential.
